An Apple A Day....

My Mom is home and doing well after her surgery. The surgery took about 2 and a half hours. My contribution to her recovery yesterday was staying really quiet while she slept (basically...I took a nap too, and slept through many of your kind phone calls, though I did some how manage to get up when Aunt Lois brought soup, bread, and a gift over). I took the day off tomorrow, and Mom goes to the doctor. She has, of course, done way too much already and has already begun cutting back on her pain pills. If you look up 'tough' in the dictionay you'll find my Mom's picture.

The Second Installment

Please pray for my Mom. This Wednesday at 9:30 she will be going in for the second of (hopefully 'just') 3 surgeries. I believe the operation will take about 2 hours. In preparing for the surgery, I'd really appreciate it if you would pray that they are able to put the IV in without any trouble, which has been a major theme in all the past surgeries, along with the rest of the procedure and recocovery.

Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone...Into India

Today, after church, Kelly suggested heading down to the Dallas Museum of Art to see the Domains of Wonder-Indian Paintings. It was a neat exhibit, there was so much DETAIL in the art work, which was the incredible part, but it was a lot of reading and looking VERY closely. I can appreciate art, but I'm not sure that I always understand it. Afterwards Kelly suggested ::gulp:: completing the experience with some Indian Food. We went to the Roti Grill. I'm not one for adventurous eating experiences, espeically with so many orange dishes to choose from, but I managed to find a tame salad and bread---I've never met a culture's bread I didn't get along with. Check back in a day or so for some more 'art interpretation pictures' by Kelly and Christy-they are on Kelly's camera, so I'm at the mercy of her schedule....

8 Things You May Not Know

Saturday, January 26, 2008 5 comments
Kelly 'tagged' me in a blogging commentary involved revealing 8 things your friends may...or may not know about you. The stranger the better. I'm supposed to respond on my 'myspace blog'.....but I'm going to respond here instead because I don't log on to myspace very frequently, and a definitely don't blog there. Feel free to do the same, I love learning (or relearning) interesting things about my friends, and I'm guessing a lot of you already know the following about me, but here it is-8 Things You May Not Know About Christy
1. I'm not a vegetarian, but I tend to eat meatless entrees. In fact, even when I order something with meat, the 'meat' is usually what is left at the end of the meal (and what I mean my meat is chicken-I never eat steak or hamburgers etc, though every once in awhile I'll get a wild idea and have a good bbq sandwich). I can go weeks without eating one piece of meat. It's all about the bread for me.
2. I've never smoked a cigerette, I've never tried a beer. I'm allergic to cigerette smoke, beer smells like urine, I have no desire to 'acquire the taste.' I'm a pretty conservative gal, I can add a lot of other 'nevers to this list'....but should I have to make another list someday, I'll save them for later :O)
3. I'm a list-aholic. I write list all day, and I even have list of my list. Grocery List, Chore List, Wish List, Gift List, Job List, Home List. They are on my desk at work, in my car, by my nightstand, next to my computer. I even write list for other people, it's obnoxious. My favorite list is a list of 101 things I want to do (no time limit set) about 7 years ago. I have about 40 things checked off. It ranges from places I want to visit, dishes I want to try making, classes I want to take, movies I want to see, books I want to read, things I want to do for others, and things I want to do for myself. It's fun.
4. I've never seen the movie Star Wars---and I have no plans of seeing it anytime soon.
5. I read a LOT...for hours on end, and though I'll eventually dedicate myself to finish one book, I usually have about 5 books I'm 'currently reading' sitting on my nightstand.
6. The earliest I go to bed is midnight-I'm a nightowl.....during the summer when I get to set my own schedule I stay up until 3 or 4 am, and then get up about 9 or 10 in the morning. I'm just not a big fan of sleep.
7. One of my biggest pet peeves is people that are chronically late. It really frustrates me when people are late on a regular basis because time is so precious, and I just think it's really selfish to make someone sit around and wait on you.
8. I have a fear of bridges and whales. When I was little my Mom read from an illustrated bible series and I repeatedly asked to hear Jonah and the Whale-since then I have had recurring whale nightmares, and large bodies of water bring back a fear of large fish. As a child even fishing at a lake I would worry that I would catch a whale or a shark and it would 'pull me in.'

Tonight I saw 27 Dresses...or...as one of my friend's said "The Christy Robbins' Story" (and some of you might could insert your name there as well).....I have had a few of the conversations with brides....word....for....word. I'm going to search my house for cameras, spyware, and bugs. 2 bridal party manicured thumbs up!

342 Month Check Up

This week one of my friends mentioend her son was turning 18 months old. I decided to try to figure out how many 'months' old I was. Today I am 342 months old. When did we stop counting in halves? Nobody seemed impressed by the fact that I'm not 28 and a HALF!

SPRINKLES

....I've done a lot this Saturday morning, but this was definitely my most interesting stop. I had my camera (because the plan was to print off the rest of my 2007 pictures so I can have the 'whole collection' ready to work with when I FINALLY pick up scrapbooking again). For the last few months, and in particular-this week, Friend's and Co-Workers have been telling me about this new Dallas bakery called-Sprinkles. Imported from the original location at Beverly Hills www.sprinklescupcakes.com. The story is they have delicious cupcakes, and though the menu varies from day to day, the quality never does. I was out, and decided it was time (twist my arm) to stop for a cupcake. This doesn't really adequately capture the experience b/c the line hanging out the door and down the sidwalk past the building had dwindled down after awhile, but it was worth the wait. This afternoon's cupcakes included the Red Velvet, White and Black, and Peanut Butter Chocolate. I had half of the Red Velvet (and help with the other half), I'll be back.

Ponderings from the Peanut Gallery

I love to check blogs, and I do so on a daily basis, but I have not been good about updating mine the last few weeks with the frequency in which I would like my friend's to update theirs :O). I guess I'm waiting for the 'excitement' to begin...I love life every day, but the outside might not be quite as 'in love' with my day to day life as I am. At the expense of wanting to at least attempt a little bit of entertainment, here are my updates:
-Prior to going back to work I got a lot of socializing in (I know, I know, pick yourself up off the floor. The ongoing (not such a joke) is that you do have to book a reservation quite awhile in advance, spontaneous outings just don't happen as frequently as I would like.). It amazes me the number of coffee outings I have despite the little fact that I don't drink coffee, and the number of meals I eat out despite the fact that I'm always watching calories (I usually watch them exit my fork and enter my mouth).
-I also have been working on my scrapbook for 2007. I use the word 'work' very lightly. The 'stuff' is out....perhaps through some sort of process so creative I don't even know I'm 'working' I am gathering ideas? There just isn't much going down on the pages...but that's typically how I work-All, or nothing. I choose nothing for now.
-I have been ADDICTED to the day to day election news. I watch debates and caucus results like most people follow their favorite team. I do love the democratic process. I like it best when my guy wins.
-Keep my Mom in your prayers, her next surgery is now scheduled for January 30th. Her take on the situation is that she is looking forwared to the time off. I guess there is nothing quite as fun as live daytime TV :O) It's not the way I'd choose to get some time off work, but it's not atypical for her to make lemonade out of the lemons life deals.
-In the dash entitled 'deep thoughts'....can I just say I feel as though I have a million little-to-big decisions to be making in the next few weeks and months, and sometimes it's interesting the more you know, the less you know what to do. I pray, look in the bible, ask my friends, ask my dogs, and come back to square one. I war within the gray areas when I wonder if I'm called to do something, or NOT to do something, or to do something a different way. In the end, I wouldn't have it any other way.

This is What it Means to be Held...

I love this song! I got to hear Natalie Grant sing 'it' tonight at church, and I took some time just to listen to the words...I've been doing a lot of reflecting on the "New Year" coming I heard so often from people "I can't wait for 2007 to be over with." Despite all the things I left behind in the year 2007, I take along the things I learned, and I'm grateful for all 365 days of 2007. I learned a lot about myself. This year I had to be 'held' a bit during certain periods, but how blessed I am to know that when all else fails-God never has and never will fail to hold me. I hold nothing against "2007"...and I look forward to 2008.
